Burlington is a city located on the shores of the Great Lake Ontario and on the ridge of the Niagara Escarpment. The city of Burlington is in the centre of what is known as the Golden Horseshoe, a dynamic business region in Southern Ontario. The city sits in the Greater Toronto Area and a population of 164,415. Politically, Burlington City belongs to Halton Region. Burlington City is amongst the top areas to reside in Canada. It is one of the 3 best cities within Canada.

Burlington has a total land area of 187 km2, made up of the sloping plain between the Niagara Escarpment and Lake Ontario. The main urban area is located south of Hwy. 407 and the Parkway Belt. To the north, the land is largely utilized for rural residential, conservation and agriculture. The city was once a port town. Now, recreational sailing vessels moor at a slip marina in LaSalle Park.

The city of Burlington hosts several attractions. Summer festivals consist of Burlington Sound of Music Festival and Canada's Largest Ribfest. Tourists also come to visit the Spencer Smith Park and the Burlington Art Centre. All of these attractions could be found at the Waterfront at Downtown Burlington. The city of Burlington attracts nature lovers due to its proximity to the Niagara Escarpment and the Iroquoian section of the Bruce Trail. Visitors come to see the Royal Botanical Gardens, which the city of Burlington shares with Hamilton. Another attraction is the Skyway Bridge, a 2.2 km long bridge. Two huge malls, Mapleview Centre and Burlington Mall, draw many shoppers.

The economy of Burlington is driven mostly by the manufacturing and automotive sectors. With a well-developed transportation infrastructure, Burlington enjoys the economic advantages of a diversified economic base. It is located within Canada's biggest consumer market and close to large industries, benefiting from nearness to Hamilton and its location within the Greater Toronto Area. The city of Burlington has always been connected with a high quality of life.

The many residents of Burlington are most often hired in the food processing, packaging, motor transportation/vehicle, electronics, business services, chemical/pharmaceutical and environmental trades. In the private sector, the largest employers consist of Fearmans Pork Inc, Cogeco Cable, Evertz Microsystems, Boehringer Ingleheim and EMC2. Many people are employed within the public sector, working for the City of Burlington, Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, the Halton District Board of Education and the Halton Catholic District School Board. The economy of Burlington is highly diverse with no single employer or employment sector dominating.
